Text 23 Aug Frustrations

Damn it, if TextMate had just a few things, I would have switched already.  As it is, it’s pretty darn hard to tear myself away from Emacs when it’s got none of:

  1. Ability to override certain keybindings: I really want C-j to be newline and have C-h be backspace and ⌘-h be help.
  2. No point-and-mark type region? So I can’t set point and isearch-forward to extend the selection?  Lame.
  3. Relatedly, can’t extend the region using emacs movement keychords, forcing you to reach off the home row to the arrow keys.
  4. Modal dialogoues fill me with rage when I’m trying to edit.

I want to like it…Emacs is, while awesome, a bit of a pain in the ass at times.  Realistically though, I think TextMate just lacks a lot of Emacs’ power.  Probably stuck with the ol’ gnu for the time being.
