Creating Something
I posit there is nothing like the visceral feeling you get when you’ve made something yourself; taken something that existed soley in your mind and reified into the physical plane. I love programming and writing in particular, as these are pursuits where you truly create something from nothing: You start with a blank page, an empty editor, you move things from your mind to the page and all of a sudden you’ve created something wonderful.
I truly cannot understand why people would want to live a life of leisure, sitting around and watching television or whatever. Nothing on television, no games, no lover is ever as satisfying as looking at something that you made—a thing that, by the sweat of your brow went from nonexistent to marvelous, a testament to your creative prowess.
Meeting Someone Who Shares Your Improbable Interests
So you’ve spend years studying something so esoteric that even your friends have no earthly idea what it is or why you love it; but love it you do. You live and breathe this, but you ache for someone with whom to share your excitement. Your friends smile and nod, but they don’t understand! They don’t truly appreciate why this is so cool because they haven’t lived it as you!
Then one day, it happens: You meet a kindred spirit, one who also knows about this, shares your excitment, appreciates why you’re so fascinated, and is even able to teach you new things about it. Simply a transcendent experience.
