So I’ve finished my first two weeks of interning at Google. Wow. Everything people say about what an awesome place Google is to work…not even close. Take the most wild hyperbole and multiple by twenty. It’s fantastic. Food, drink, access to gyms, rocking-climbing walls, massages — I can’t even begin to enumerate the number of awesome things that are provided.
It makes good sense for them to do things like this too. I realized this when I found myself sitting at my computer at 8:30 in the morning, happy to start the day, having arrived at the office shortly after seven to hit the gym and eat breakfast there. When people remark about how radical Google is, what they’re really saying is how strange it is that Google realizes that people work better when they’re happy.
I don’t really have anything terribly interesting to say yet, beyond Google is a great place to work, California seems like a nice place to live, and people here are very nice. I’m finishing off my starter project now though, starting on my real (and much more ambitious) project next week. That will probably worthy of further blog-discussion when it gets going…hopefully I’ll be allowed to talk about it!
